If you have been issued a citation for soliciting a prostitute you should consult immediately with an experienced trial attorney who practices criminal law in the District of Columbia.

Section 22-2701of the D.C. Code makes it unlawful for “any person to engage in prostitution or to solicit for prostitution”. Prostitution is defined as inviting, enticing, offering, persuading, or agreeing to engage in prostitution. Prostitution is agreeing to sexual acts or contact in exchange for money or a fee.

Most often a simple conversation with an undercover police officer about the cost of performing a sexual act in exchange for money will result in an immediate arrest and you will find yourself being booked or and possessing a citation to return to court to answer these charges.

The charges carry a maximum jail sentence of 90 days in jail and a permanent conviction on your record which is embarrassing and will cause you to have to explain in detail to future employers and college applications.

Consulting with an experienced trial attorney is a must.
